Avoid the Deck-Ard, just use the Anaconda.

It's effectively an upgrade to the Devolver Anaconda, which is a great workhorse for most of the game. My primary combat tool right now is the Triad Revolver, which is a reward from a sidequest roughly halfway through the game. Getting four shots in a row with The Last Kiss Goodbye is a wonderful feeling. The ammo is rare, the clip sizes tend to be small or even non-existant.

One last thing on explosives, it's not a terrible idea to mod them for ammo save chance. If you never find the Fujin, you can always just buy the One-Trick Pony from Larry.
Others to look for are the Genocider, which uses Pulse rounds instead of Grenades, so you can carry three explosive weapons (like I do), and the Fujin, which does great damage and is single shot, kinda like The Last Kiss Goodbye, only using a different ammo type and with an arc, and half the damage but more ammo efficient. The damage is ridiculous, and it's one of the few weapons I'd recommend to mod for straight damage, since percentages are more pronounced when the base numbers are higher. I believe it's also bought in the shop, but later in the game. The Last Kiss Goodbye is a more realistic single-load rocket launcher, and it's what you're looking for. Monsoon is probably the first rocket-launcher you'll get (it's basically the Yari from SW1), and it's not too great, but it does mop up some foes while saving ammo for other workhorses.
The Duke can be bought in the shop fairly early, and is really powerful for taking down tougher enemies from a safe distance, especially if you mod it for an element that target is weak to. Speaking of which, explosives are amazing. You can have tons left for your heavy hitters. If you build them for shooting at small, weak enemies. The medium guns are really not that great, though I try to make them work just to conserve ammo for other things.
I don't think it gets harder simply by being a newgame plus, but you can increase your difficulty up to insanity 4, and if you feel at some point that enemies die too quickly (I don't), you can start a private multiplayer game and adjust the difficulty up to for 4 players.I'm about halfway through the game, don't even have a melee weapon on my quick-bar. This mostly counts for melee weapons since I never really played ranged, but I don't see why it should be too different.ĮDIT: Forgot about the bonus question. That means playing with elemental weapons is still pretty good, but if you don't want to constantly switch (or go down too often because you can't steal health off immune enemies) pure physical weapons do the job even against physical resistant enemies. So, on insane 4 your strongest weapon will probably be a physical one, but you can easily have 100% elemental ones with a single elemental gem, which won't be too much weaker. On the highest difficulties you'll frequently encounter enemies that are 100% immune to up to 3 elements, and physical immunity is rare compared to that, although many at least resist. The highest weapon dps is achievable with gems that give you crit chance and crit damage, or if you can't find enough of these, use ones that give you pure damage and either of the crit stats.
